Landsdowne/Britannia

Riverdale Avenue SW

The City lumps River Park/Landsdowne/Britannia together as one dog park, but really they are three disparate and unconnected areas.  River Park is reviewed separately.  The Landsdowne area is a small off-leash area that is fenced, however there are four gates without doors and therefore the area is not fully enclosed.  As of September 2015, the area appears to be under construction, so perhaps gates will be a future addition.  The fenced area is small enough that large dogs need to be stimulated (i.e.:  a rousing game of fetch) to be deemed properly exercised.  Knee-high vegetation may intimidate smaller dogs.  The views along the Elbow River and Britannia slopes are picturesque.  A bench is offered if you wish to soak in the surrounds.  Landsdowne is adjacent to a pedestrian path accessing the Sandy Beach recreation area via a foot bridge, which is beautiful to explore on-leash.  A future off-leash area is planned west of the pedestrian path with direct access to the river.  This rocky beach with calm, shallow water is nice for pooches who enjoy a splash.  A parking lot is located at the end of Riverdale Avenue and waste bins are provided in the lot.  A seasonal washroom is available in the Sandy Beach area.  The Britannia area is a narrow strip atop the Britannia cliff with spectacular views.  Five waste bins are provided along the length.
