Inside of a Dog

Author:  Alexandra Horowitz

Dog professionals – predominately veterinarians and trainers, write almost all of the dog books I read.  While I hold immense respect for the content, it’s generally blatant that writing is not the special talent of these authors.  Inside of a Dog transcends both trends.  Horowitz is a professor of psychology and animal cognition, so she brings a fresh perspective, and in this work her style is beautiful, almost poetic.  She captures dog gestures in words like a photograph.  This book imparts knowledge with a rarely-seen embrace of joy and pleasure.  The title accurately conveys content – “What Dogs See, Smell and Know” is exactly what is shared in the book.
